How did you get started in Fashion design?

My mother, who was an expert in fashion design and pattern-making, moved us from Greece to the United States as a teenager. After college, [Demetrios studied business], I began to design headpieces for brides. This led me to designing dresses. Although I didn’t have formal fashion training, my mother was my mentor and my main inspiration. Later, I set my sights on New York City and opened a studio there in 1981.

Describe Your Style of Demetrios Wedding Gowns

My first wedding gown was very conservative, with long sleeves and a high neckline. I wanted to create a more romantic, feminine look with elements like lace, mermaid necklines, and lower necks. This helped me get noticed and allowed my business to grow. Now I don’t adhere to any one style. I offer variety and cater to all brides in my boutiques. I also keep an eye out for trends. If I had to describe my inspiration, it would be that I love to design elegant, romantic and sensual wedding gowns.

Which is your favorite bridal fashion trend right now?

Lace is a favorite of mine, and it makes up about 30% of my new collection. It can be elegant and sophisticated, which I love.

What makes Demetrios Wedding gowns so beautiful?

Because of her special day, the bride makes the gown beautiful. It should be the bride who creates the wedding dress, not the other way around.

Which trends are we able to look forward?

Simpler dresses will be more in demand, but with less fuss and interesting details. High necklines will make an impression, including off-the shoulder and V-neck styles. It is also important to have sleeves. I prefer shorter sleeves on wedding dresses, except if the long sleeves are made of fine lace and stretch tulle.

Do you have a favorite style of Demetrios wedding gown?

A-line and Mermaid styles are very flattering to me. I love low, sexy thighs and this is something that I pay attention to in my designs.

What is the importance of embellishment on Demetrios Wedding gowns?

It is very important. After all, where else can one wear such a beautiful, intricate dress? You can transform your look with things like crystals, beads and lace. My designs are not too detailed and elegant.
